Week 3 (13/9 - 17/9)
Research and prototyping
Documentation
My main focus this week was not on documentation but on research and experimentation. That being said, there were still important additions (mainly to my Project Plan). This mostly relates to the establishment of a firm design challenge and supporting research questions, based on feedback and discussions with the other interns. Both of the aforementioned additions will be important parts in guiding the project. More info on this can be found here.
After looking at my current research report, I decided it was not concise enough and needed to be split into various sub-products. I will be working on this next week.
Research & Prototyping
I continued working on my prototypes from last week by integrating them. In doing this, I know have the possibility to send a REST request containing an image URL to a remote server, which in turn downloads the image and analyses it using OpenFace. This results in, among other files, a CSV file with the generated data. The final part is returning the contents of this CSV file, though this is not my focus at the moment. The concept has already been proven and I can move onto other parts of my prototyping.
Before I can continue prototyping, more research is needed. This week my focus has been on finding out which language(s) and framework(s) to use and how I should verify the realism of a provided image.
Another avenue of research was trying out FaceReader. Unfortunately, there have been installation issues so far. I will therefore try to continue with this next week.
Spoilers for next week
Trying out various frameworks and languages (Ruby-on-Rails, Laravel, Django etc.)
Split research into sub-products
Discuss final project plan during the first company visit
Try out approaches for realism verification
